It’s a black day on the trail. Due to incidents in various places and a spontaneous strike around Liège, train traffic has not been running as it should all day. There is also a risk of disruption for travelers during the evening rush hour.
There were personal accidents in two places: in Landegem on the important Brussels-Bruges line and in Moortsele, on the line between Ghent and Zottegem. The first incident in particular can still have consequences for the evening rush hour, says rail infrastructure manager Infrabel.
In addition, a train broke down in Anzegem, on the line between Kortrijk and Brussels via Denderleeuw, around noon. The approximately 50 travelers were taken away by bus. Equipment had to be brought to the scene to tow the train away. The incident was only dealt with after 4 p.m. There may still be follow-up delays, warns Infrabel.
Furthermore, a spontaneous strike has broken out in the Liège region, which also has consequences beyond that. Employees there went on strike after a case of aggression against a train conductor on Sunday morning.
Dozens of trains were completely or partially lost, mainly connections with Liège-Guillemins station. The NMBS uses replacement buses on a number of routes and NMBS tickets are valid on buses of the Walloon transport company TEC in the region.
