An anniversary with a huge carnival car of almost 45 meters

A carnival float, almost 45 meters long and 9 meters high, will be the showpiece for CV De Plak from Someren-Eind. It is not a record, but for the association itself this is at least the trophy of their 11th anniversary. For a small club it is not half done. “We all took the week before carnival off to continue building.”

Carnival associations have not had it easy in recent years. Insofar as corona hasn’t yet thrown a spanner in the works, the declining enthusiasm of young people in the village centers does. “They prefer to sit behind the Playstation,” complains chairman Ruud van de Voort (25) with a grin on his face. That does not apply to him. He himself is lovingly building the car until one o’clock at night.

“The public is the sjaak with us this year.”

The theme on the car is ‘crown witnesses’. Literally, because the festivities on the car will revolve around a dental practice. “I can’t reveal everything yet, because something fun is going to happen,” beams Van de Voort. “But the public is the sjaak with us this year.”

The construction of such a huge colossus is done in stages. CV De Plak started this before the pandemic, but now they can finally finish it.

“If we had made these hours with the boss, we could now drive a nice car.”

Some parts are already finished and parked elsewhere, but a lot still needs to be done. “It is a lot of work, but we have decided to go for it. If we had made these hours with the boss, we could now drive a nice car,” he laughs.

Incidentally, the record for the longest carnival float in Cranendonck is held by the Flausemausen with a length of 58 meters.
