On Thursday morning shortly after 2 a.m., the Berlin fire brigade was called to Finowstrasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain to a 180 square meter roof structure that had been detached by a gust of wind.

The roof is currently under construction and was protected from the rain by a thick blue tarpaulin. Apparently a gust of wind lifted the roof construction and folded it over.

The construction was only held by scaffolding. The fire brigade had to remove the entire construction to avert the danger. The tarpaulin could have flown into the inner courtyard like a kind of large sail and endanger the residents of the adjacent houses.

The fire department’s response lasted until just before 6 a.m. The fire brigade was on site with around 20 emergency services. The police are investigating how the damage could have happened.
