decision “necessary”
When Wigan Athletic presented ex-professional Kolo Touré as the new coach at the end of November, the club’s social media department wrote of a “new era” that was about to begin. Two months later, the 41-year-old’s term of office is already over: on Thursday, the English second division team announced the early split with the former defender.
“As difficult as this decision was, the board felt it was necessary to give us the best possible chance of remaining a Championship club next season,” said managing director Malachy Branning. Touré took over Wigan in 22nd place in the relegation zone and have not won in nine games on the touchline in all competitions, Wigan have now slipped to the bottom of the table and are four points behind the saving bank. Touré’s contract would have lasted until 2026.
Wigan Athletic can confirm that they have parted company with First Team Manager, Kolo Touré.#wafc #BELIEVE
