VfB Stuttgart: Offer for Mijat Gacinovic? AEK Athens demands a high fee

Key players in Greece

After leaving TSG Hoffenheim in Greece, Mijat Gacinovic found his old strength again and apparently applied to return to the Bundesliga. How “Mozart sports” reported from Gacinovic’s home country of Serbia, VfB Stuttgart has its eye on the 27-year-old midfielder, who is tied to AEK Athens until 2026.

According to the report, a change in winter would be very difficult to implement. Although VfB made a concrete offer for a loan with a purchase option, AEK is said to have rejected this. The Athenians therefore do not want to give up Gacinovic as a key player in the fight for the title. Only a sale can be considered if Stuttgart offers at least 8 million euros – far too much for the cash-strapped Swabians.

AEK Athens, last Greek champions in 2018, is back in the title race after several years and is in second place after 19 matchdays, one point behind Panathinaikos. There, after his reserve role at TSG, Gacinovic played on loan in the first half of 2022 and prepared four goals in 17 games. At AEK, which transferred one million euros to Hoffenheim last summer, the midfielder has been directly involved in eight goals in 15 games to date, most recently he had to pause for a few weeks with a groin injury.
