Radiohead could start working on new music — or put out another reissue — in 2023. This was hinted at by drummer Phil Selway in an interview. In conversation with “Spin” He said: “We’ll meet in early 2023 and I’m sure we’ll hear each other’s ideas for what’s next.” back, right?”
With this hint he doesn’t mean her studio album, which is still current. That was called A MOON SHAPED POOL, and it was released in 2016, six long years ago. No, HAIL TO THE THIEF was Radiohead’s sixth record, released in 2003 and celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. It is obvious that celebrations are planned around that anniversary – whether in the form of concerts, re-issues or something completely different is still unclear.
Radiohead have regularly cleaned up their archives over the past few years and searched for found objects. The triple album KID A MNESIA was released in 2021 to mark the anniversaries of their albums KID A (2000) and AMNESIAC (2001). In 2017, OK COMPUTER OKNOTOK 1997 2017 was released, the anniversary edition of the British masterwork.
In the summer of 2022, guitarist Ed O’Brien was even more vague about his band’s future. He said: “Maybe one day something will happen again. Or maybe not. Does it matter?Radiohead doesn’t exist at the moment. He elaborated: “It would have to be five people saying together that they really want to work together with the others again. But because we’ve been doing this together for so many years, each of us is gaining different experiences. Not only should this be allowed, everyone should be encouraged to do it.
Singer Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood, who is also active as a film composer, most recently formed the band The Smile with Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner and released the album A LIGHT FOR ATTRACTING ATTENTION.
Selway is releasing his solo album STRANGE DANCE next month.
