Energy remains the main driver of inflation. This represents an annual inflation rate of 25.7 percent, compared to 34.9 percent in November. The prices of alcohol and tobacco rose by 13.8 percent, those of non-energy industrial goods by 6.4 percent and those of services by 4.2 percent. Inflation in these three categories will be even higher than in the previous month.
Lithuania and Latvia are the inflation champions in December with a percentage of 20 and 20.7 percent respectively. Spain is at the bottom of the ranking with an inflation rate of 5.6 percent.
For Belgium, 10.2 percent inflation is shown in the tables. The Belgian statistics office already communicated last month that inflation was 10.35 percent in the final month of 2022. Eurostat and Statbel use a different calculation method.
