“The next time I am asked to perform at a major Eurovision song program, I will not be there,” responds singer and Eurovision winner Lenny Kuhr. The singer turned out to be cut from the TV registration Het Grote Eurovisionfeest on Wednesday. Kuhr was incensed about that because she didn’t know about it.
“I was not ready to watch the tube myself. I was writing a new song. I was alerted to it by fans who missed me,” the Eindhoven artist responds on Thursday.
“I was pressured that I should not be missing.”
“It was made very important in advance by AVROTROS that I had to be present at the concert,” says the singer. “As Eurovision winner, I certainly could not be missing from all the other Eurovision winners. I had a very nice performance and the audience was very enthusiastic, but I was put under pressure beforehand to show up. That makes it a bit sour that I then did not to be seen.”
That irritation was increased by the singer because no one had bothered to tell her that she had not made it to the broadcast. “I understand that there can be all kinds of reasons to cut out an artist, but please let me know. That is a matter of respect and decency.”
“I am no longer tempted by the words that I am ‘indispensable’.”
The fact that different versions circulate about who is responsible for the final assembly ensures that the irritation in the Kuhr house lingers. Kuhr has been told by AVROTROS that the production company is responsible for final editing and contact with the musicians.
A spokesperson for the broadcaster told the ANP a different version, namely that Lenny Kuhr has been seen more often in their Eurovision song broadcast in the past and that it was better for a change that other artists would be featured this time.
In the meantime, Lenny Kuhr is still waiting for the explanation of the production company that removed her from the broadcast. “It could well be that it refers to AVROTROS again. I’m not going to waste any more energy on it. I just know that next time I won’t let myself be pressured anymore. The argument that I can’t be missed is with this worthless.”
