Never before have so many Flemish people donated their bodies to science as last year. No less than 527 people opted for a ‘second existence’ as a study object in medicine lessons. This is evident from our own survey at the five Flemish universities. In Ghent, a temporary stop has already been introduced with 133 donor bodies. However, donating your body is anything but obvious, also for the next of kin: “The farewell ceremony takes place without the deceased himself.”
