Biathlon coach Sverre Olsbu Röiseland can imagine Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick in the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leaders this season.
“Why not? I think she can do it,” said the Norway-born discipline coach of the German women’s team of the “Deutsche Presse-Agentur”: “She’s a stable shooter this season and her times are good.”
Before the first race of the new year on Thursday (2:20 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport) on the Pokljuka in Slovenia, Herrmann-Wick is in fourth place overall. However, the 34-year-old from Saxony has already emphasized that her focus this winter is entirely on the home World Championships in Oberhof in February.
For the 32-year-old Röiseland, the overall World Cup is not the focus either. Herrmann-Wick should “continue to improve during the season and show consistent performances,” he said, and still commented on the coveted jersey: “She can absolutely wear this jersey.”
Marte Olsbu Röiseland back in the Biathlon World Cup
His wife Marte Olsbu Röiseland triumphed in the overall standings last year, but had to take a long forced break since spring as a result of a corona infection.
For the first time this season, the 32-year-old three-time Olympic champion from Beijing will compete in the World Cup in Slovenia this week.
Sverre Olsbu Röiseland has been the new coach for the women’s team of the German Ski Association since May 2022, together with national coach Kristian Mehringer.
