Premier League: Arsenal drop points in top game against Newcastle

Man United are approaching

Arsenal, who have been so sovereign up to now, have dropped points for the first time after five wins in the English Premier League. The Gunners had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday. Arsenal have 44 points eight points ahead of holders Manchester City, who can move closer with a win at Chelsea on Thursday.

“I’m really proud of the way we played, how we dominated the game,” said coach Mikel Arteta (quoted via “Guardians“). He went on to say: “In the last third we lacked the spark to find the extra pass and also a little bit of final quality. We had a lot of situations around the penalty area that we could do better.” Meanwhile, Arteta saw two “scandalous” penalties that the “Gunners” were not awarded: they meant an alleged foul on Gabriel Magalhães (61st) and a hand ball from Guest professional Jacob Murphy (90 + 5).

Newcastle remain third with 35 points after the draw in London, but record champions Manchester United were able to draw level on points thanks to a 3-0 (1-0) win over AFC Bournemouth and also have a game less than the “Magpies”. Ex-Real professional Casemiro (23rd), Luke Shaw (49th) and Marcus Rashford (86th) scored the goals for the “Red Devils”. Everton, threatened with relegation, suffered a serious bankruptcy: Three days after the 1-1 win at Man City, coach Frank Lampard’s team lost 4-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion. The German Pascal Groß scored the fourth goal for the guests.
