The Austrian shoe retail group ANWR Garant Austria GmbH gets a new boss. On March 1st next year, Andreas Mayer will take over the post of managing director, the company announced on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old former professional soccer player succeeds Georg Schachl, who will retire at the end of April. For the past five years, Mayer has been in charge of retail consulting for the Sport 2000 Austria association, which also belongs to the ANWR Group.

Fritz Terbuyken, who is responsible for the international shoe trade on the board of the ANWR Group, commented on the change in management: “In Andreas Mayer we are pleased to have gained a managing director with retail and association group experience. With his competence, he will successfully continue the positive development of ANWR Garant Austria,” he said in a statement.

Terbuyken also paid tribute to the outgoing managing director: “We would like to thank Georg Schachl very much for his outstanding commitment over the past 13 years. Thanks to him, ANWR Garant Austria was able to expand its market-leading position. We wish him and his wife all the best for his personal future.”
