World Cup Slalom: Lena Dürr – No more trauma, please

Status: 12/26/2022 1:38 p.m

There have already been four slalom races this season, and Lena Dürr has lost a good starting position four times. There is still a chance of ending the trauma in 2022.

On December 29, Lena Dürr is one of the favorites at the start of the last slalom of the year in Semmering, Austria. The slalom ace from Germering is in a league with Mikaela Shiffrin and Wendy Holdener this season. The only difference: the top competitors regularly finish two good runs, Dürr only one.

Hundredths of seconds decide

The 31-year-old needs two perfect runs to finally achieve her first victory in the World Cup, because the world leaders have moved much closer together. In the slalom, it is no longer seconds that decide, but hundredths of a second between victory and fourth place. And Dürr has already been in fourth place twice this season. She did well in the slalom races in Levi, Finland – once she was first and once second after the first run. In the second run she always fell behind, twice fourth, twice a spectator, while the others climbed onto the podium.

In the most recent slalom in Sestriere, Dürr had a good starting position in fourth place at half-time, but she only finished eighth in the final and suffered the next setback. It’s just little things that have prevented Dürr’s first World Cup victory so far. The “problem areas” were also worked on around Christmas, only on Christmas Eve and the first holiday was there no training. Ski racers don’t know a long Christmas break anyway. After the ride through the pole forest in Semmering, the next slalom races are scheduled for the first weekend of the new year on January 4th and 5th in Zagreb.

At the women’s slalom world cup in Sestriere, Wendy Holdener confirms her current strong form. Lena Dürr is eighth – the summary in the video.
