Taylor Swift’s tenth studio album, Midnights, was released in October and quickly debuted at number one in the UK, US and Germany. Swift has now broken a new record: The album sold six million copies worldwide within two months, three million of them in the USA alone.
It also makes her the only artist ever to have five albums that have sold over a million copies in its release week. It’s also the first album to have sold over a million physical albums since 2015.
The album describes Swift as, “The tales of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”
Tour ticket sales had to be cancelled
In November 2022, the singer announced “The Eras Tour,” 52 stadium shows across the US that would feature a variety of guests including Paramore, Beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red, MUNA, Haim, Gayle, and Gracie Abrams Owenn.
Here, too, there was a great rush – even to the point of canceling the advance sale: Already in the first sales round, thousands of fans reported long waiting times, website failures and excessive prices on the resale page. Ticketmaster later admitted it collapsed under “historically unprecedented demand” from Swift’s fans before canceling general sales.
Finally, in early December 2022, Ticketmaster announced it would be selling more Eras tour tickets through its Verified Fan program.
