Status: 14.12.2022 11:35 a.m

Green light for the 71st Four Hills Tournament. The ski jumping spectacle in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen can take place as planned.

The 71st Four Hills Tournament, which starts on December 28th with the qualification in Oberstdorf and ends on January 6th with the final in Bischofshofen, is secured. On Wednesday, the organizers of the tour locations in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen gave the go-ahead for the ski jumping spectacle after Christmas.

Cold helps with preparation

In view of the energy crisis, the organizers were lucky with snow production, because it is becoming increasingly difficult to provide good conditions for winter sports enthusiasts in view of the climatic changes. At the start in Wisla, Poland, the organizers had dispensed with artificial snow. The ski jumpers landed on green mats.

At the ski jumps in Germany and Austria it now looks wintry. “Thanks to the cold nights and the wintry weather, we have already been able to produce enough snow in all four stadiums with minimal energy expenditure, so that we can now quickly start preparing the ski jumps“, explains Dr. Peter Kruijer, President of the Four Hills Tournament from Oberstdorf.

Kobayashi triumphed in 2022

Good conditions for the top athletes to determine the next overall winner around Christmas and the turn of the year. In January 2022, Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi picked up the Tournament Golden Eagle for the second time after his success in the 2018/19 season. The German Ski Association (DSV), on the other hand, last celebrated in the 2001/02 season. Since Sven Hannawald won the golden trophy. From a German point of view, the hopes of finally bringing in the overall victory again rest on the DSV ski eagles Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler this year.

The stations of the Four Hills Tournament

Traditionally, ski jumping takes place on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf (December 29). Then the convoy moves on to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the New Year’s competition (January 1st). The third competition of the tour takes place in Austria. There the ski jumpers in Innsbruck (January 4th) go on the Bergisel Schanze over the Bakken. The finale for the golden tour eagle will take place in Bischofshofen (January 6th).

From 4 p.m. the men will start qualifying for the World Cup ski jumping in Zakopane.
