“hurts us extremely”
1. FC Köln will again have to do without Mark Uth for around three months. The offensive player of the “Effzeh”, who has often been out since August due to problems in the adductor area despite an operation and only made short appearances, has to be operated on again. “Unfortunately, next Thursday there will be another surgical procedure in order to hopefully get the adductor and pubic bone problems under control, which Mark has been handicapping for a long time now. The downtime after the operation will certainly be ten to twelve weeks,” said sporting director Christian Keller on Sunday.
“It hurts us a lot. Mark is a player who carries quality on offense,” Keller continued. The 31-year-old’s contract in Cologne expires at the end of the season, but Keller emphasized: “We clearly want Mark to continue playing for us. Even if he unfortunately couldn’t help this season as everyone wanted.”
Coach Steffen Baumgart had already called for winter reinforcements for the attack at the start of training after the World Cup break a few days ago. “Yes, I would like to have another striker. I make no secret of that,” said the 50-year-old (quoted via “goat blog“) clear on Thursday. With Steffen Tigges (24) and Sargis Adamyan (29), Baumgart currently only has two of five fit center forwards available (to the Cologne squad by position).
