Third semi-finalist is Morocco after beating Portugal: The “Lions of Atlas” are the first African World Cup semi-finalists in history. In the evening, England and France determine the last semi-finalist.
Semi-finalists from three continents for the first time in 20 years
Morocco’s entry into the semi-finals means that teams from three continents are in the semi-finals for the first time since the 2002 World Cup. At that time it was Brazil (South America), Germany and Turkey (Europe) and South Korea (Asia).
All in all, a semi-final has only featured teams from three continents for the third time. Prior to 2022 and 2002, it first happened in 1930. The semi-finalists were Argentina and Uruguay (South America), USA (North America) and Yugoslavia (Europe) – although North and South America were only regarded as a common continent in historical counting.

When comparing England and France, one of the big favorites for the title will be knocked out of the tournament. The statistics speak against the world champion: The English have won twice in two World Cup games so far (2-0 in the group stage in 1966, 3-1 in the first round in 1982).
