Little storm damage or flooding, only a lot of calls by the sea
Inland, storm damage was limited, despite gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour. In the area around Waregem and Kortrijk, it generally remained fairly quiet, with mainly fallen trees. On the E17, near the entrance and exit complex in Waregem, the road was blocked for a while after a tree fell on an electricity cabin. The fire brigade came to the scene to cut the tree into pieces, and to clear the road again.
There were also no striking reports in the area around Roeselare. The Midwest fire department did record one intervention for flooding in a home, so the Drogenbroodstraat in Ardooie had to be closed temporarily. “There is only material damage,” it sounds.
More damage in coastal region
About 70 calls were registered in the north of the province. Most of these also involved fallen trees, loosened roof tiles or blown away road signs. The fire brigade had to intervene on the coast for a scaffolding that threatened to come loose and a roof that threatened to blow away.
The RMI will keep code yellow until 4 am tomorrow morning. Especially on the coast, where the wind blows just a little harder than inland, you have to pay attention. The emergency number 1722 for non-urgent calls will also remain active until further notice.
