Borussia Mönchengladbach has apparently finally lost the poker game for goalkeeper Yann Sommer. The Swiss World Cup driver is probably drawn from Gladbach to Manchester United in the English Premier League.
That reports “Picture”. Accordingly, a winter change of the 33-year-old to the island is in the room. United want Sommer to succeed Spaniard David de Gea, whose contract is expiring.
Summer in Gladbach is also only tied until the end of the season. If Borussia gives him up in the January transfer period, a small transfer fee could still be generated. The club is said to be ready to talk about the United offer.
“We weigh everything carefully and are prepared in any case,” the newspaper quoted Gladbach’s sports director Roland Virkus as saying.
No external successor for Yann Sommer at Gladbach?
The Gladbachers probably do not want to sign a prominent new keeper in the event of a summer departure. As “Bild” recently reported, the sporting management of the Bundesliga eight instead trusts the current number three Jan Olschowsky.
The 21-year-old homegrown player should take on the difficult summer inheritance in the short term and follow in the footsteps of Marc-André ter Stegen in the medium term.
The national keeper from the in-house foal stable made his professional debut at a young age and made his breakthrough in Gladbach. In 2014, the now 30-year-old moved to FC Barcelona, where he became one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
Gladbach: Great praise for Jan Olschowsky
So far there have been two appearances for the pros in Olschowsky’s statistics, the 2-1 defeat at VfL Bochum and the 4-2 win against Borussia Dortmund this season. Because Sommer and the regular substitute Tobias Sippel were out, the youngster came to the train – and did a good job.
“Jan is a great talent and showed his class in a few key moments. He radiated a lot of calm, I’m really happy for the boy,” coach Daniel Farke praised the goalkeeper talent, on which Gladbach now seems to have great hopes .
