Search for the perfect Christmas tree, even before Saint Nicholas has left the country

In Berlicum, Christmas lovers went looking for the perfect Christmas tree on Saturday morning in the December cold. Because although Sinterklaas hasn’t left the country yet, many people can’t wait to immerse their home in the Christmas spirit.

The Nordmann, blue spruce and silver fir, they have plenty at Christmas tree nursery Joris van Roosmalen in Berlicum. Some trees shine beautifully, lose almost no needles and hardly cause any allergic reactions. The selection is done carefully, every tree is inspected.

“That is high, isn’t it, the peak still has to be on it.”

Some have even brought a measuring tape to make sure that the green colossus fits in the house. “It’s high, isn’t it,” someone says. “The peak still has to go on.”

Once the choice has been made, the tree is removed from the ground, put a net around it and can be taken home.

“It will be in the middle of the living room, so we still have to be able to walk around it.”

“It was quite a search, I think we walked around here for an hour,” said a woman. “The tree must be very high, but above all very narrow. It will be in the middle of the living room and otherwise we will not be able to walk around it. We have to trim it a little and then it will be perfect.”

A male customer doesn’t happen overnight either. “We are going to make it a beautiful Christmas and that includes a beautiful tree. It is really searching because there are so many trees.” He comes here every year with his wife. “And they also deliver it at home, which is ideal.”

“This is the dream tree,” concludes Maria Mulder, who has just had her eye on a large specimen. “Nice green and high. Yes, this has to be it,” she says. “I love Christmas and always put it on at the beginning of December. And then it stays until January 6. It’s so cozy, it always makes me happy.”
