Gladys, who finally found a new love, no longer wanted to keep her daughter with her, but also refused to let her go back to the Bolenders. They would have liked to adopt Marilyn. Instead, Marilyn was taken into care at Gladys’s initiative. Before her first marriage, which Marilyn entered into when she was only 16, she also lived with other relatives.
