“We’re not going to abolish the benefit overnight, but it’s better to just pay people in euros than in a company car,” he says. According to Gilkinet, the Greens will propose a cut in the tax break on company cars when the government considers a tax reform.
In December, competent minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) must already put a first step on the table. According to Gilkinet, this also includes a VAT reduction on train tickets to zero percent.
The minister also asks for patience with regard to the problems at the railways. “It takes time to clean up the misery of my predecessors. Bad choices have been made in the past. Such as the investment in Bergen station, while much better money would have gone to the trains themselves and the overhead lines,” he argues.
