The Public Prosecution Service is appealing against almost all suspects in the major Mallorca case, which revolves around a brawl in which the then 27-year-old Carlo Heuvelman was killed. The OM is demanding a higher sentence against seven of the nine suspects, including main suspect Sanil B.
Eight of the nine suspects were convicted by the court on November 18. The main suspect, Sanil B., was sentenced to 7 years in prison, other suspects received sentences ranging from more than two years in prison to community service. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspects were punished too lightly: they think it is unjust that only Sanil B. has been convicted of manslaughter.
During the verdict, the court stated that Sanil B. was not solely responsible. That is why the Public Prosecution Service believes that the others have been punished too lightly. The OM is convinced that at least one of the young men knows more about what happened that night than the group lets on. In addition, they find the 7-year prison sentence imposed on Sanil B. too low.
Appeal
A number of suspects have also appealed against the court’s decision. For example, Sanil B.’s father is convinced that his son is innocent. He even sells his snack cart so he can use the proceeds to reward a golden tip.
The Public Prosecution Service will not appeal against two suspects: one suspect has already been acquitted and for another they have demanded acquittal themselves.
