Divorce: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are now officially going their separate ways

When the English-language media speak of a “divorce settlement”, it can simply mean “divorce judgment”. But also, more in legal jargon, “divorce agreement”.

Hubris rapper Kayne West (aka “Ye”) and Kim Kardashian tend to be more of the latter. Since the multimillion-dollar couple was also a media and marketing machine during their turbulent relationship, the divorce drama also required dozens of assets to be rearranged.

According to CNN and other US media, citing a source familiar with the lengthy process, Kardashian receives $200,000 a month in child support from West and custody of their four children. A corresponding draft should be available to CNN as a document.

Kardashian famously filed for divorce in February 2021, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In March 2022, Kardashian was formally declared “single” after her application to change her marital status was approved.

In an interview with fashion magazine Vogue earlier this year, Kardashian explained what led to their spectacular split: “I did what made other people happy for so long.” Then she finally made up her mind: “I’m going to make myself happy now. Even though it led to drastic changes and caused my divorce, I think it’s important to be honest with yourself, which is what makes you really happy.”

In September 2022, Kanye West, who had lost several very lucrative business relationships in the past few weeks and months after a series of anti-Semitic statements and whom Donald Trump himself describes as a “seriously ailing person”, publicly apologized to Kardashian. In an interview on Good Morning America, he publicly apologized.

“She is the mother of my children and I apologize for any stress I have caused, even in my frustration, because God is calling me to be stronger,” West said with his usual pathos.

The couple got married in 2014 in a so-called “dream wedding” in the posh town of Portofino on the Ligurian coast. Reports from the time said: “The couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at Dolce & Gabbana’s Villa L’Ulivetta, before a reception at the medieval castle of Castello Brown.”

As the saying goes in Italy: “Tempi passati!”
