No debut for Xavi Simons? That already costs this PSV fan more than 7500 euros

You have to be careful what you tweet. A man from Eindhoven who tweets under the name Rood van Nistelruuij has noticed this. “If Xavi Simons does not make his debut for the Dutch national team against Qatar, I will donate 50 cents per like and per retweet to Amnesty International.” That ‘joke’ has now been retweeted almost 14,000 times and liked more than 1,300 times.

PSV player Xavi Simons has not made any playing minutes in the Orange squad in Qatar so far. That pisses off a lot of fans. They expressed their frustration on Twitter, as did Rood van Nistelruuij.

During the last group match of the Orange, against Qatar, he was sweating on his forehead, when Simons was not allowed to make his entrance well into the second half by national coach Louis van Gaal. “Xavi Simons really has to fill in .. LOUIS!”, Rood tweeted worried around a quarter past five. But the trainer ignored his request.

How should Rood pay the Amnesty donation? Not paying the rent or mortgage for a while is an option, it seems. “Would anyone have a cardboard box for me to spend the night in for the next few months?” he asks.

Several people ask him whether he is really going to donate the money or they advise him to start a crowdfunding campaign. “I will make a donation anyway,” he tells Omroep Brabant. However, that will probably not be thousands of euros. “I don’t know the amount of the donation yet, it will be a bit too much,” said the PSV supporter, who wishes to remain anonymous. Finally he decides one crowdfunding campaign to start.
