The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is still investigating the traveler who was arrested this afternoon at Schiphol for threats. After arriving from a flight at Schiphol, the 55-year-old man walked into the Marechaussee’s office at Plaza, threatened the staff and said that he had dangerous substances with him. Despite the ongoing investigation, Schiphol Plaza has now been released.
Schiphol Plaza was cordoned off for hours by the Marechaussee, while the suspect was held at the station all that time. Defense specialists were called in to check whether the suspect had any radioactive material with him. That investigation is also still ongoing at the Marechaussee’s office at Schiphol Plaza, which is the only place that has been cordoned off.
According to a spokesman for the Marechaussee, it could take hours before it becomes clear whether the man really had dangerous substances with him. RIVM is investigating this.

The threat caused a nuisance for train passengers, because part of the railway station was also closed off. There were long queues at the ticket machines.
