Youp van ‘t Hek does not spare his good showbiz friend Matthijs van Nieuwkerk now that he has been exposed as an evil TV presenter. He describes him as the ‘national broadcast executioner’.
While many of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s friends, such as Claudia de Breij and Marc-Marie Huijbregts, keep their mouths shut about his misconduct, Youp van ‘t Hek now devotes his entire NRC column to him. The title of the piece is ‘Cold hair dryer’ and the presenter is not spared in this.
Youp dismayed
Youp speaks of Matthijs as ‘our national broadcaster who has driven quite a few innocent editors crazy during his daily ego show’. “What news that was. The broadcasting world shook to its foundations this week. But take it from me: Matthijs is not the first and certainly not the only one.”
According to Youp, it does not stop here. “Last week I went through a list of equally suspicious television types with some colleagues and I heard facts that were not tender. There will be a few more staggering aftershocks soon.”
Joke about king
It’s no secret that guests were not always happy about DWDD, especially when they were canceled again. “It seems that even King Willem-Alexander was once canceled while he was already in the make-up”, jokes Youp.
And then? “The king then carefully objected to this, but Matthijs’ right-hand man Dieuwke Wynia personally scolded the studio.”
