The Groninger Biljart Club (GBC) has received the royal medal of honor.
Deputy mayor Inge Jongman presented the decoration on Monday evening – club night – in Sociëteit De Harmonie in Groningen, the permanent home of the GBC. The reason is the 125th anniversary of the billiard club, which makes it the oldest billiard club in the country.
The GBC, founded on November 28, 1897, has 46 members, whose average age is 76. 15 of them come out in the different classes of the Groningen-Drenthe District of the KNBB.
In addition to the weekly club evening, in which mutual matches are played, the GBC organizes Christmas competitions and club championships, among other things.
