Alongside France and Brazil, Portugal was the third team to qualify early for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar. A cleverly played win against Uruguay was enough for that.
Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal are in the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar.
The Portuguese won their second group game against Uruguay 2-0 (0-0) on Monday evening and were the third team to qualify early for the knockout round after France and Brazil.
In front of 88,668 spectators at the Lusail Stadium, midfielder Bruno Fernandes (54 minutes and 90+3/hand penalty) scored both goals for the southern Europeans.
It’s going to be tight for Uruguay with one point from two games in the fight for the round of 16. The basic requirement for a chance of progressing is a win against Ghana on Friday.
