The former Dortmund Barcelona professional Ousmane Dembélé does not want to be asked any more questions about his supposedly critical lifestyle at the World Cup in Qatar. “I think we should delete this question in the future because a lot of things have changed,” said the French international at a press conference after being asked: “You change between 19, 20 and 25 years of age. Some things weren’t what you imagine. But I’ve matured and become more responsible, in my game and off the pitch.”
He had “difficult years, three or four seasons,” said Dembélé, who switched from Stade Rennes to Dortmund in 2016 for around twelve million euros and went to FC Barcelona a year later for over 100 million. The sum has now grown to 140 million euros with bonuses.
Dembélé has high goals at the World Cup in Qatar: “I’m ambitious,” he said: “I want to be a protagonist in this World Cup.” He was in the starting XI in the 4-1 win against Australia and put in a decent performance. Strong performances at FC Barcelona this year have seen Dembélé’s market value increase from €30m to €60m. The Frenchman collected twelve points in 20 LaLiga and Champions League games this season.
