Cycling team Jumbo-Visma has withdrawn from the Tour of Valencia. Two people from the team have tested positive for the corona virus. As a result, Milan Vader from Sittard is also forced to give up on his road debut.
Father drove his first kilometers in a road race this week in Valencia.
Debut
Vader, who has raced mountain bike so far, was in good shape in the Spanish stage race. He achieved his best result in Friday’s stage. Then he finished 13th in the queen stage and rose to 15th in the standings. “I went all the way. It was very tough and at the same time a lot of fun,” said Vader, who has lived in Sittard since 2013, on his team’s website.

Protection
Vader’s team has now decided to step out of the race. “Since it cannot be ruled out that even more people will test positive, it has been decided that we will withdraw to protect others, inside and outside the team,” said Jumbo-Visma. “The infected team members go into isolation, close contacts in quarantine and the rest return home.”
DSM
Not only Jumbo-Visma has withdrawn. Team DSM also did not start in the fourth stage. On Friday, the Australian team BikeExchange-Jayco withdrew from the multi-day race in Spain.
