No.and in recent days I must have asked hundreds of people – big voters and people I met on the street – who, according to them, would have been the President of the Republic.
At the thousandth answer I realized something. Men tended to expose themselves. Someone got it right, others didn’t understand anything; however they were unbalanced, they mentioned names, they ventured percentages. The women, on the other hand, almost never answered. The game did not amuse her. They avoided making assumptions: “Let’s wait and see”.
Suddenly it occurred to me when I try to ask my children for a prediction, even a trivial one: who wins the game, how much will the pizzeria’s bill be. My son Francesco answers and participates in the game with curiosity and fun; my daughter Rossana calls out annoyed.
I thought it can’t be a coincidence. It is no coincidence that high bettors are almost always men. There must be a relationship between things.
Men, in fact, tend towards abstraction; women to action. Men theorize; women do. Men wonder about the future, women take over the present. Men analyze problems; women solve them. The great philosophers are men; the great modern politicians are women.
This obviously has advantages and contraindications. For example, women usually have a horror of offal – which many men find very good – and feel sorry for Fantozzi, which many men find very amusing; this because women, who tend to take everything seriouslythey believe that they really eat the entrails of an animal (in fact it is, but men abstract themselves and do not think about it), and they believe that it really rains on Fantozzi’s head and every kind of misfortune happens (while in fact it is not so; “It’s just a movie”, as they used to tell us as children).
Ps I know that we cannot generalize, that there are no “women” and “men” but billions of women and billions of men; but, as we have already said, if we did not generalize we would only be gossiping.
