Coach Tayfun Korkut sees Hertha BSC on the right track despite the missed liberation in the Bundesliga.
“In my opinion, that was the best half-time since I’ve been here,” said Korkut about the strong first 45 minutes in the 1-1 (1-0) win against newly promoted VfL Bochum: “We’ll have to live with the point, but we’ll make up for it clearly based on the first half.”
It wasn’t enough for the hoped-for victory at the start of the 21st matchday, because Bochum acted with more momentum after the break – and Joker Sebastian Polter (48th) equalized early on.
“We get the goal and the game changes, it becomes more competitive,” said Korkut, who defended himself against the accusation that his team had withdrawn too much: “We weren’t more passive, just the game was different.”
The coach was very satisfied with the debut of winter newcomer Marc Oliver Kempf in central defence. “He played a very good game,” said Korkut: “He looked very confident in every action.” You can already see “that he will help us in any case”.
