The 2023 Wrestling World Championship will also be moved from Krasnoyarsk in Russia to Belgrade in Serbia. This was announced by the world association UWW. The tournament is scheduled to take place in early September, but an exact date has yet to be announced.
Already this year, Belgrade stepped in as the host of the World Cup for Krasnoyarsk. Because of the sanctions imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a result of the aggressive war in Ukraine, Russia is unsuitable as a host, the UWW wrote in its decision.
Wrestlers from Russia and Belarus are currently not allowed to participate in major international competitions.
