Five new players have broken the 100 million euro mark in the past market value updates and have increased the number of professionals to eight with a three-digit million sum – they lead the top 100 most valuable players worldwide. At the top of the ranking is Erling Haaland (22), a new name.
Messi to Haaland: The 100 most valuable footballers in the world
Musiala in the 100 million club, Messi just barely there…
After the market value updates in the major leagues in Europe, the ranking of the 100 most valuable footballs in the world has been realigned. (as of November 12, 2022)
The Norwegian striker increased his market value from €150m to €170m after a furious start at Manchester City, dethroning Kylian Mbappé (23), who remained unchanged at €160m at PSG. For the first time in the history of the Transfermarkt market values, which have been collected since 2004, the English league has the most valuable footballer in the world.
The new five players behind Vinicius Junior (22; Real Madrid), the old and new number three, in the 100 million club also include a Bundesliga duo. The top talents Jude Bellingham (19; BVB) and Jamal Musiala (19; FC Bayern) were able to increase their market values to 100 million euros each. As in September, the German Oberhaus is represented 16 times among the 100 most valuable players – eleven of these Bundesliga players come from the ranks of FC Bayern.
In the top group, players in their late 20s or early 30s are now the absolute exception. While Tottenham striker Harry Kane (29) remains unchanged at €90m, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (30) is down €10m and Kevin De Bruyne (31) from Man City is down €5m due to age below. This process will continue gradually and will soon overtake De Bruyne’s teammate Bernardo Silva (28), who, like the duo, is also valued at 80 million euros.
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
