Düsseldorf will have to wait a little longer until the KaDeWe Group’s new luxury department store opens in the Carsch-Haus.
Instead of the planned autumn of 2023, the location of the luxury department store operator, which is 50.1 percent owned by the Thai department store operator Central Group and 49.9 percent by the Austrian Signa Holding, will not open its doors until the fourth quarter of 2024. This was confirmed by a Signa spokesman when asked by FashionUnited. Various media had previously reported on the changed plans.
Signa is currently awaiting planning permission, which is expected later this month. As soon as this is available, the start of construction is to be initiated six weeks later. According to Signa, there were several delays in the planning process between the city and Signa for the construction project, which is expected to cost around 55 million euros. Problems with monument protection and a planned roof terrace slowed down the process. Now, however, the main problems should be solved.
Two new luxury department stores in autumn 2024
The KaDeWe Group is one step further, but still not there with the Viennese luxury department store ‘Lamarr’. Just last month, the company announced the name of the new location, which pays homage to Hollywood icon Hedy Lamarr.
The Vienna location is currently a major construction site. When construction began in 2019, it was still expected to be completed by the end of 2023, but now the shell of the building is only to be completed in the middle of next year. The opening of the department store, which is located together with the integrated Thompson Hotel on a plot of around 7,500 square meters, is planned for the end of 2024, as in Düsseldorf.
The KaDeWe Group has not yet responded to a request from FashionUnited to change plans in Düsseldorf.
