– Anita has been on my mind a lot this week and yesterday I went to greet her extempore. I stayed in the village for the night and the joys and sorrows of life were shared again without sparing laughter, Mäkinen writes in his publication.
In his update, Mäkinen emphasizes Hirvonen’s importance along his own career.
– Anita has taught me a lot about life and performing. Even at the turn of the year, he knew how to say exactly the right words to me when my mind was at its darkest. There was more joy and wisdom in life with the flea market, says Mäkinen.
Hirvonen suffered from health problems for many years after falling on the steps of a concert bus in 2018. The accident led to a knee injury and with it a long rehabilitation process.
– Yes, it was miserable when you had to be in need of others’ help all the time. Fortunately, I have such wonderful neighbors that they went to the store for me and my friend did my laundry, Hirvonen commented on his situation at the time.

After the health problems subsided, Hirvonen planned to return to the concert stages, but the corona pandemic hit the wheels. The urge to perform was also strong at the beginning of this year.
– When nobody claps for me here at home, that’s the connection with the audience. You know the audience got something out of your performance when they clap for you and you see them happy. That’s what you need.
