Switched in 2022 for 3.5 million
In the summer, VfL Bochum transferred home-grown Maxim Leitsch to 1. FSV Mainz 05 for 3.5 million euros – only twice has the district club received a higher fee for a player. According to consistent reports from club-affiliated blogs, “one eight four eight” and “Deep in the West – The VfL Magazine“The 24-year-old has not yet become really happy with his new club. Bochum is therefore considering a temporary return of the central defender on loan in the winter.
However, this is only an option if this is the right solution for Leitsch in terms of health. The defender has been out since mid-October due to physical and mental exhaustion. It is not yet clear how long Leitsch will be out of action. At the time of the diagnosis, Mainz had only announced that they wanted to do further tests with the professional.
Leitsch had signed a contract in Mainz until 2026. In the first eight games of the season, including the first round of the DFB Cup, the European U21 champions were always in coach Bo Svensson’s starting eleven and, with the exception of the 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach in early September, always played 90 minutes.
