Map out some running routes within the municipality of Emmen so that running enthusiasts can train for the 4 Miles of Emmen all year round. With this proposal, D66 hopes to get Emmen residents more active in an appealing way. The group filed a motion to this effect this afternoon.
According to party chairman Joey Koops, this action offers an excellent opportunity to make sports more popular among the population. Because if you look at the figures, residents of the municipality do not exercise much. In addition, obesity and long-term illnesses and disorders are relatively common.
Therefore, make the entry threshold for sports low and take advantage of the popularity of an event such as the 4 Miles of Emmen. “It is a well-attended event that many Emmen residents like to participate in.” Similar routes already exist in other municipalities, such as Groningen. “Beginners and advanced can train here.”
According to Koops, it is financially easy to set out a course. “For little money, markings can be put out on existing roads and paths.” Moreover, these types of routes offer residents an excellent opportunity to get to know their own environment. “Think of routes along the dolmens, the Bargerveen, the Emmerdennen or the Rensenpark.”
Alderman Pascal Schrik thinks it is a great initiative. “But don’t just apply this to Emmen. Make it a bit wider and also think of the outer villages.” Schrik is also willing to enter into discussions with local running associations.
