The winning streak of world number one Iga Swiatek surprisingly broke at the WTA Finals.
At the WTA finals in Fort Worth, Texas, the Polish player Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus lost 2:6, 6:2, 1:6 and missed the final of the final tournament for the best tennis players of the year.
There, Sabalenka meets Caroline Garcia from France, who previously beat Greek Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-2.
In the group games, Swiatek had dominated like no other player had done in 15 years. The 21-year-old had only given up 13 games in her three group games, the fewest since the Belgian Justine Henin in 2007 (eleven), as the WTA announced before the semifinals.
For Swiatek it was also the first defeat after 15 wins in a row against a player from the top ten.
