HSV defeats weakened Jahn
An overhead kick goal gave SpVgg Greuther Fürth their second victory in the 2nd Bundesliga under their new coach Alexander Zorniger. 19-year-old Armindo Sieb scored in the 41st minute on Sunday to earn a deserved 1-0 (1-0) win at Eintracht Braunschweig. The new signing from Bayern Munich had already scored the winning goal against Arminia Bielefeld in Zorniger’s debut last weekend.
In front of 17,580 spectators, the Fürth were the better and more dangerous team for at least an hour. Despite a header from the post by Filip Benkovic in the 74th minute, the Bundesliga relegated team had little trouble defending their lead against weak Braunschweigers.
This defeat ended a winning streak of eight second division games without defeat for Eintracht. Especially in the offensive game, the promoted team is finding it increasingly difficult to compensate for their injury problems. Playmaker Immanuel Pherai and attacker Luc Ihorst were absent last week. Striker Anthony Ujah also had to be substituted against Fürth in the first half with a back problem. In the final phase, coach Michael Schiele substituted central defender Michael Schultz as a center forward due to a lack of alternatives.
HSV stays tuned: 3:1 against unpleasant Regensburgers
Hamburger SV stays close to leaders Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga. The promotion favorite prevailed on Sunday in an entertaining match against the weakened SSV Jahn Regensburg with 3:1 (1:1). Kaan Caliskaner (7th) gave the guests an early lead. Mario Vuskovic (12th) equalized in front of 51,314 spectators. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (79′) and Robert Glatzel (90′) rewarded HSV for their attacking efforts with goals against the brave Regensburgers. With the fourth home win, the Hamburg team moved back up to one point to the Darmstadt team.
Regensburg also contributed to the high-class game, having to do without their sick coach Mersad Selimbegovic in the Volksparkstadion and being looked after by assistant coach Sebastian Dreier. The visitors took advantage of their first chance. Caliskaner didn’t give HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes a chance. With a shot from 25 meters, Vuskovic equalized just five minutes after Jahn had taken the lead. Driven by midfielder Ludovit Reis, whose contract extension until 2026 had been announced a few hours before the game, the Hanseatic League gained an ever greater advantage as the game went on.
Skrzybski before Glatzel: The top scorers in the 2nd Bundesliga
Regensburg goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum prevented the deficit several times. The replacement for Dejan Stojanovic also destroyed the best HSV opportunity shortly after the start of the second half and saved a penalty kick from Glatzel (49th). When László Bénes (66th) shot the post, Kirschbaum would have had no chance. Benes (60th), who was conspicuous after the break, had just caused the scene of the game: After a cross, he hit the ball with his heel while lying flat in the air – but the ball flew over the Regensburg goal. Only Königsdörffer provided relief for the North Germans with his goal before Glatzel removed all doubts.
1:2 against Magdeburg: 1. FC Nuremberg falls on the relegation zone
1. FC Nürnberg have fallen into a relegation zone under new coach Markus Weinzierl in the Bundesliga 2 after an alarming home defeat by 1. FC Magdeburg. The “Club” lost 1:2 (0:0) against the clearly better promoted team on Sunday and is now penultimate in the table. Defender Cristiano Piccini scored twice and was the match winner for the guests who passed FCN. The Italian scored from a free kick (58th minute) and from the penalty spot (76th).
Offensively, Nuremberg again offered playful poverty in front of 30,377 spectators in the Max Molock Stadium. It was significant that Magdeburg’s goalkeeper Dominik Reimann made it 1-1 in the 64th minute with a curious own goal. Reimann let a back pass from Andreas Müller slip through into his goal after imprecisely accepting the ball.
The guests from Magdeburg were the team that played constructive football in the Max Morlock Stadium. What was missing for a long time were the successful degrees. Mohammed El Hankouri shot just wide (19′), Connor Krempicki headed the crossbar (34′). After a free kick, the Piccini was on the spot. The central defender also safely converted the penalty after a foul on Magdeburg’s captain Baris Atik.
Duo at the top: Most valuable players in the 2nd Bundesliga
The “Club” recorded only one exciting offensive scene before the break, but referee Nicolas Winter, even after looking at the video images, stuck to the decision not to punish Daniel Elfadli’s bump against Nuremberg’s Jens Castrop in the Magdeburg penalty area with a penalty (19.) . Fabian Nürnberger later missed a great opportunity to take the lead from 13 meters out (51st).
