First Sint Maartens procession in Ardooie after corona

Sint Maarten, the counterpart of Sint-Nikaas in some West Flemish municipalities, is the patron saint of beggars, tailors, tourists, geese, wine tasters and bed-wetters, according to the chronicles. Schools and associations portray folkloric stories about the life of the holy man.

But today, groups often also give a more up-to-date interpretation to their performance. Here and there participants sometimes come up with a naughty slogan, such as ‘a C4 for Demir’. That is a concept with the new manure action plan in mind. With about 33 self-built floats, the groups accompanied Sint Maarten at his entrance.
