“What needs to happen before real solutions are found?”: dozens of asylum seekers may have to sleep on the street | Inland

After a weekend or after a holiday, the registration center is always more crowded. With the current reception crisis, it is extra difficult to give everyone a place, Fedasil reports. The figures provided by Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen cannot be confirmed by the federal agency.

“We don’t have those figures yet and we won’t have them today, because the available places are allocated by the Immigration Department. We do not know exactly how many people have requested or received shelter,” said a Fedasil spokesperson.

At Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen they regret that the services were not prepared for this, while this was to be expected. According to the NGO, all families and minors were able to submit an asylum application, but they could not find a place to receive them. The single men were again not given the opportunity to apply for asylum.

“It is obvious that the government still misunderstands the urgency of the situation. What needs to happen before real solutions are found?”, wonders director Tine Claus.
