The press conference with coach Thomas Reis

After six Bundesliga defeats in a row, FC Schalke 04 is now in the middle of a fight for survival. In the second game under new coach Thomas Reis on Saturday evening against Werder Bremen (6:30 p.m.), points are essential. The Schalke coach will answer questions from the public on Thursday.

sport.de accompanies the PK from Gelsenkirchen from 1 p.m. on the live blog.

+++ Rice over Terodde +++

“I was looking for the conversation last week. I had my own thoughts. Simon is a leading player and has done a lot for the club. When he was substituted on, he gave it his all and worked actively. Perhaps it also helped that the tickled Simon a bit.”

+++ Rice about the away series +++

“I’m trying to ignore that. It’s my responsibility to move the team forward. We’ll do everything we can to get a positive result. It’s still important to play the game and work against the statistics.”

+++ Reis via Werder Bremen and your own goals +++

“You can see that Bremen simply plays with euphoria. That they have a team that can turn games around. We saw the beginnings that you can keep opponents away from the goal if you defend well. Of course, some things don’t go fast enough , but you can’t set your goals too high. It’s important that you’re brave. You can see that everyone is still busy with themselves. The big picture isn’t there yet.”

+++ Reis about Drexler and Larsen +++

“Both are back in full training. I’m glad we have alternatives. Competition stimulates business. Both look very fit.”

+++ Reis via Kaminski and Co. +++

“Normally no player will come back from long-term injuries, as far as Bundesliga football is concerned. I hope that they will come back as quickly as possible in their free time, because every training session then helps.”

+++ Reis about Ouwejan and the defense problems +++

“It’s not an easy situation. I knew that in advance. If the next player is going to be out for a longer period… It’s the way it is. Another player will be out. It doesn’t make the situation easy, but it is not impossible. In Kolo we also have a player who keeps getting closer to the team. There is also a new option there.”

+++ Here we go +++

The FC Schalke 04 press conference is about to begin. Coach Thomas Reis is ready and waiting for the questions.

+++ Schalke threaten negative record +++

FC Schalke 04 have hardly ever had anything to gain abroad in recent times. But the miners have not only been frighteningly weak away from home in the upper house since this season. Should S04 not win in Bremen, it would be the 35th away game in a row in the Bundesliga without a threesome. This would set the Royal Blues an all-time negative record. The last time this happened to Karlsruher SC was between 1976 and 1981. At the last mentioned Schalke success abroad, head coach David Wagner was still on the sidelines at FC Schalke.

+++ How does Schalke 04 get on track? +++

Last weekend, S04 delivered some decent phases against Freiburg. Again, however, there was a lack of defensiveness and offensively the last punch. What measures has Reis considered to make FC Schalke 04 better on both sides of the field?

+++ What will become of Terodde? +++

In his first game as Schalke boss last weekend, Reis surprised by the decision to initially leave top striker Simon Terodde out. Does the ex-Bochumer trust his former companion Sebastian Polter again in Bremen? Or will Terodde get the nod this time after his replacement against Freiburg wasn’t a factor at all recently? And what about newcomer Kolodziejczak’s starting XI chances? Thomas Reis could provide one or the other answer at the press conference.
