Mark Koster believes that André Hazes Jr. suffers from megalomania. The media journalist does not understand that the folk singer feels like some kind of rock star. “This is a narcissistic non-valeur.”

The documentary series by André Hazes Jr. has also been scrutinized by media journalist Mark Koster. He finds it shocking to see that the singer thinks he is some kind of world star and did not even rule out belonging to ‘the club of 27’. Those are legendary artists like Amy Winehouse and Jimi Hendrix who died at that age.

Elvis Hazes

Mark thinks André grossly overestimates himself. “What really disturbs me is that this man behaves as if he really is the Elvis Presley of the Low Countries. We see there a boy of 28 or 29 who can hardly sing,” he says in the podcast The Juice Show on Podimo.

It is obvious that André has come to believe in himself too much, according to Mark. “Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Elvis Presley are heroes and they can do some things, but he can’t do much. I see him in that studio and he sings out of tune in the car once. That Monique is sitting next to him and just barely puts her hands over her head. It is not to be heard.”

rock star

André is not a legend and will never be one, emphasizes Mark. “What annoys me is that he acts like he’s a rock star. I think that’s bad. What kind of figure is this and why should we look at it? I thought that all the time. Who does he think he is? André Hazes Jr. is not a legend?”

He continues: “For five episodes you watch someone who thinks he is Elvis Presley. What I also find funny or crazy is that he wanted to join the club of 27 with Amy Winehouse and Jimi Hendrix. Who do you think you are? It’s a shame he mentions it. Stop it.”

Non-valeur

The scene in which André visits a Dua Lipa concert is significant, according to Mark. “André said: ‘When I look at Dua Lipa, I become a little bit Dua Lipa.’ I studied that completely and thought: this man is a neurotic, a narcissistic non-valeur, a narcissist who can do little and we should all look at that.”

“I find it really disfigured. This is not a great artist, this is a patient.”
