Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) serenely dealt with Ferrari’s poor balance at the Mexican Grand Prix, finishing off the podium in fifth position, while teammate Charles Leclerc finished sixth, 68 seconds behind the winner, Max Verstappen. “Without a doubt it has been our worst weekend of the season by far,” said the Madrid native in reference to the performance of the F1-75 at the height of the Hermanos Rodríguez.
“Unfortunately it is the weekend in which we have gone the worst by far. We knew the compromises we had to make with the car for this type of height and circuit. We knew that we have lost a lot, a lot of ‘performance’ with respect to the other races”, explained Carlos to the DAZN microphones.
“A shame because for a weekend that I’m comfortable with the car, I’m attacking… But unfortunately there wasn’t much pace. At least I was able to complete the race, learn after two races without racing and have a good race” , added Sainz, who abandoned the two previous tests in Japan and Austin.
“We don’t know how much the other cars have had to suffer on this track, but we know that we have lost a lot here,” stressed the Ferrari driver, who is confident that this afternoon’s race in Mexico has been an exception and that in two weeks in Brazil the Scudería can be in front again.“More than a step forward from Mercedes, we have gone wrong, because under normal conditions we are still better than them,” Carlos closed.
