Last night, the fire brigade responded to a report of a fire in a supermarket in Paterswolde. Passers-by saw that the store on Hoofdweg was full of smoke.
The police officers and firefighters who arrived on the scene discovered that a burglar alarm was going off in the building with a so-called fog generator. This fog alarm creates a large cloud of smoke so that any burglars can no longer see their hands in front of their eyes.
The police investigated the supermarket, but it was a false alarm, a police spokesperson said. There was no break-in.
The fire brigade checked the store and then ventilated the building.
