Despite nuclear exercise, Russian ambassador claims Moscow will not use nuclear weapons: “Absolutely out of the question” | War Ukraine and Russia

Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrey Kelin, said Russia has no intention of using nuclear weapons in the war with Ukraine. He said this in an interview with the American news channel ‘CNN’. “No statement has been made about that, neither by the president nor by other people in positions of responsibility,” Kelin said.

“Russia is not going to use nuclear weapons. There is absolutely no question of that,” Kelin said in the interview. “Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has assured all other ministers that we will not use nuclear weapons,” the Russian ambassador continued. According to Kelin, Russian President Vladimir Putin also does not intend to start a nuclear war.

“I am not talking about the people on television who say that Russia will use nuclear weapons. That is completely out of the question,” emphasized the ambassador.

Kelin’s statements are not entirely reassuring, however. For example, it was announced earlier today that Russia has been conducting nuclear exercises under Putin’s supervision. The exercises included testing ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, the Kremlin said.

Although Russia conducts a nuclear exercise every year, the Russian authorities have been threatening the use of nuclear weapons since the start of the war in Ukraine.
