Schalke 04 has apparently reached an agreement with Thomas Reis. The former coach of VfL Bochum is to take over the coaching position in Gelsenkirchen.

The ex-Bochumer Reis, with whom Schalke had already spoken last summer, should lead the royal blues to stay up in the league. Sky and the sports buzzer report this in unison.

Most recently, interim coach Matthias Kreutzer led Schalke’s training after the club parted ways with Frank Kramer on October 19.

Thomas Reis was released on September 12 in Bochum. With VfL he had lost the first six games of the season. Now the 49-year-old is to be presented at Schalke on Thursday.

Hertha BSC looked like the sure winner against Schalke in the Bundesliga for a long time. Then the “squires” struck first before Berlin answered again.

After six games, there is already the second dismissal in the Bundesliga. Now it hit Thomas Reis from the still pointless VfL Bochum.

Precarious situation for Schalke

However, the search for personnel in Gelsenkirchen does not end there. Schalke announced on Wednesday that sporting director Rouven Schröder had asked to leave the club before his contract expired for personal reasons.

The situation at Schalke is also sportingly and financially precarious: after five league bankruptcies in a row, the promoted team has fallen to last place, the team that Schröder had to rebuild again before the season, not least because of major financial problems, mostly lacked Bundesliga suitability. Money for new players is only available in a very limited amount.
