Watzke: If Bellingham wants to leave, …

Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke has reacted calmly to the speculation about young star Jude Bellingham.

“I don’t know if he wants to go. If the Jew tells us at some point – that hasn’t happened so far – we will talk to each other. It’s not like we want to sell him,” said Watzke on the sidelines of the Champions League game against Manchester City on Amazon Prime Video.

Bellingham still has a contract with BVB until 2025. It was recently speculated that the 19-year-old could possibly go to a top club in England next summer. Before the game, City coach Pep Guardiola had spoken of the international with great respect. “Now he’s one of the team’s captains. At 19 years old – that’s very impressive,” said the Spaniard.

Bellingham has already scored eight competitive goals this season. The fact that he last grabbed the BVB coat of arms after goals “doesn’t mean anything at all,” said Watzke. “I think it’s okay to touch the logo when you’re standing in front of the fans. Because you have something that connects you. But don’t tear this shirt off and then kiss it. What he’s doing is completely okay.”
